Music Festivals from Around the World – Part

Music festivals are loved by everyone, there are so many of them held all over the world, that there is bound to be one that features your own favourite kind of music. Some are world famous and others no more than a group of similar minded fans getting together to listen to their favourite genre of music. No matter the size and location of a music festival they all have one thing in common, and that is that artists are playing live in front of an audience. There is nothing quite like listening to your favourite music being played live by the artists that made it famous, it is a unique moment as though the musicians were playing just for you. In this blog we look at some of the music festivals that are popular across the globe today.

Exit – Serbia

Novi Sad in Serbia is not a place you would particularly associate with music festivals, but this festival was started by students as a political statement to fight for democracy in their beloved Serbia. The first Exit festival was fourteen years ago in 2000 and since then it has amassed a total of 2 million people from all over the world that have been to see the live bands playing. Exit takes place at an incredible setting, an old medieval fortress, and there are an awesome 16 stages with all manner of entertainment on show.

Montreux Jazz Festival

Montreux is different than most festivals in that it occurs in different locations and over a period of two weeks. It is not just a pure jazz festival, it has developed into a multi genre festival including rock, soul and blues. The average Montreux festival goer is probably just as much interested in fashion as music, and all in all it is quite a hi-so affair. The next festival is due to be held in June 2018 and the main auditorium, the Stravinski will once again play host to music legends from across the globe. Artists that have appeared there have included, Carlos Santana, Patti Smith, Stevie Wonder, Prince, David Bowie, James Brown and Etta James.

Sziget

Budapest is one of the most charming cities in Europe, and it plays host to one of the giants of the European festival circuit, namely Sziget. Every year over three hundred and fifty thousand revellers descend on the fifty venues that comprise Sziget, which has been nicknamed the Island of Freedom. It is a truly mixed genre festival with every type of music being performed, from jazz, rock, folk, blues, pop, traditional etc. Sziget also prides itself on the more cultural side of things and presents art exhibitions, theatre, circus and many more. Artists that appeared in the 2017 festival were: Pink, Kasabian, Jamie Cullum, and the Strypes.

These festivals have concentrated mostly on Europe, but in Part Two of our blog about the best music festivals in the world we turn our attention to North America and see what is going on in the United States of America.
